We're awarded official Best Companies status as a great place to work

We've achieved ‘1 Star’ accreditation for 2016 by Best Companies, the organisation behind ‘The Sunday Times Best Companies to Work For’ lists.

Our upgraded ranking is based on the results of Best Companies’ national annual survey of almost 410,000 employees from over 1,300 UK-based companies who were invited to rate their employers on attributes such as leadership, management, personal growth, wellbeing and community involvement. Of the ensuing 768 businesses who gained accreditation, we were awarded ‘1 Star’ status.

“This year’s Best Companies results are a step up from last year’s ‘One to Watch’ accreditation”, explains Julian Bryan, Managing Director. “Our survey responses show higher engagement towards Quill than 12 months ago which is a strong statement by our staff that our management team’s efforts to improve our workplace is being successful.”

Amongst the many new initiatives introduced by our senior managers are monthly email communications from our MD titled ‘JB’s Update’ and bi-monthly regional roadshows called ‘News, Views & Eats’. The latter comprises a gathering of employees at each of our four offices as a two-way discussion of company news (presented by Julian) and opinions (free speech is welcomed from staff) within a relaxed atmosphere over food and drink.

“We’re delighted our staff members feel that our company culture is changing for the better”, adds Julian. “With a more engaged workforce, productivity’s on an upward curve and our clients also benefit because they receive an effervescent service from our motivated teams of legal cashiers, payroll clerks, support technicians, sales consultants and those in other customer-facing roles.”

Part of the Best Companies methodology is to learn from survey data to devise an engagement-building strategy which focuses future improvements in the right areas.

“Our involvement with Best Companies is a journey and, despite our positive outcome this time round, can’t stop”, concludes Julian. “We’ve pinpointed the important aspects of employee engagement which require our further input, and we’re now putting together plans for Quill’s continued business development which will, ultimately, make Quill an even better place to work.
