Quill Pinpoint wins ILCA Solicitors' Software Users Award 2010

The Institute of Legal Cashiers has once again surveyed users of legal accounts software to find the supplier rated most highly by its members.

The winning supplier for 2010 is Quill Pinpoint.  Making the final step up from last year’s second position, Quill managed an excellent 95.29% score to cement first place.

Perfect Software Ltd have climbed from fourth to second (94.12%), Peapod Legal Office Ltd made their voices heard to lift them into third place (92.94%) and Select Legal Systems Ltd achieved fourth place with a score of 91.11%.

The results for the ILCA Solicitors’ Software Users Award were obtained by submission on a web based survey.  Submissions were rejected if they had a lack of information, a lack of data entry and attempted duplication or manipulation of data. Eight suppliers received insufficient entries for a representative sample and therefore they are not included in the overall gradings.

The software was graded on the following criteria:-

• adequacy of training

• usefulness of manual or online help

• ease of making postings

• bank reconciliations

• interest calculations

• compliance with SARs

• month end routine procedure

• quality of help desk support

• VAT return calculation

• clarity of ledger card

• nominal postings

• bill postings

• ease of reporting generally

• upgrades

• reaction time to regulatory changes

There is no doubt that the quality of the day to day experience of using legal software is of utmost importance to members and on the whole, all of the suppliers manage to satisfy users with regard to the ease of making postings, nominal and bills posting and clarity of ledger cards, in fact Quill scored 100% on this section.  Quill were also scored highest in the month end routines gathering a score of 98.67% in response to general reporting, VAT returns, interest calculations and bank reconciliation amongst others.

It should be noted that as well as our winners, second place Perfect Software, third place Peapod Legal Office, fourth place Select Legal Systems and seventh place TFB all achieved over 90% in both of these important categories.  The quality of training provided by software suppliers is always an important consideration, not just at the point of considering the purchase of software, but also the availability of quality training for new staff members.  This year Peapod Legal Office have topped the poll as the best provider of user training and manuals with 90%, closely followed by Perfect Software and Select Legal Systems.  Peapod Legal Office also came top on the quality and promptness of Helpdesk support scoring 100% and prompting user comments that they are always willing to help.
