It’s easy! Once you start as an outsourced client with Quill, you’ll be assigned a dedicated individual who will handle your day-to-day tasks and be your go-to person for all your queries. You’ll also have an assigned deputy for absence cover so you’ll always be able to interact with your cashier, deputy and supervisor by phone, video call or email as much as you need. Your contact is seen as an extension of your staff and will quickly be up to speed with your specific needs.

1. What type of support does Quill provide?

Our support team has, on average, 10 years of experience working for Quill – there is no problem they’ve not been able to solve! Our SLA is four hours for full resolution and one hour for first contact within working hours.

We are all UK-based and are available via email ( and by telephone (0161 236 2910) from 9:00am-5:00pm Monday through Friday.

2. What type of training does Quill offer?

Unlike others, our approach isn’t to provide you with a piece of software and then leave you to it. We’re with you every step of the way to ensure you are onboarded correctly and your system is set up for success.

Upon implementation, we provide effective onsite live training or remote training for as many users as you’d like. We can offer ongoing support or onboarding for any new employees on an ad-hoc basis.

3. Is the program easy to learn and to use?

Absolutely. We’ve been servicing the legal industry for over 40 years, and our software goes through many rounds of reviews, beta testing and robust internal testing before any updates are released. Plus, we have a helpful implementation and training team that will be on hand to help you through all the stages. We also offer live and recorded training webinars, in-person training, and thorough documentation and in-app training to help you every step of the way.

Compliance & Functionality

1. Is your software compliant with SRA and CLC regulations?

Yes, we have gone through rigorous testing and since our inception in 40 years, we have been fully compliant with all UK legal industry bodies.

2. Does the Quill software handle Making Tax Digital (MTD)?

Yes, Quill integrates with HMRC’s MTD service. Our MTD for VAT module is available as part of your standard licence. On top of existing functionality where you keep detailed digital records of all sales and purchases for VAT purposes, you can prepare and submit VAT returns straight to HMRC, and view current and past VAT returns from one handy software screen.

3. Can Quill help with GDPR and AML compliance?

Functionality in Quill assists GDPR compliance by protecting your data. There’s information on our software’s data security measures in our security policy. 

Quill contains an optional module for AML compliance, which costs £5 for AML checking or £7 for AML with credit screening, on a per transaction basis. You can conduct automatic electronic checks and get ‘pass’ or ‘fail’ results instantly.

With data checked across many sources, our AML system will flag whether your customers are or could be linked to money laundering, bribery and corruption, terrorist financing or another form of financial crime. It’s available on a pay-as-you-go basis with no annual subscription charges, minimum usage or contract period.

4. Can Quill handle legal aid?

Definitely. In Quill, statutory criminal and civil legal aid rates are maintained, helping to make your monthly lower civil and criminal submissions to the legal aid agency easy. Worth noting that we do not, however, support CCMS.

1. What does cloud-based software mean?

Cloud-based SAAS (software as a service) is the delivery of computer-based services, such as servers, storage, databases and software, via the internet. It allows lawyers to work confidentially and securely from anywhere with 24/7 availability and provides benefits such as scalability, reduced costs and flexibility.

2. What technical requirements do I need to install Quill’s software?

Our software is 100% cloud-based, so it’s ‘plug and play’ — all you need is access to a web browser and reliable internet. 

3. Does Quill run on PC, Mac, tablets, iPhone and Android?

Yes, the beauty of Quill being 100% cloud-based is that all you need is internet access and a web browser to connect to our system. An iPhone/Android app is also available to download.

4. Where will my data be stored?

Quill’s core server infrastructure is built on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and is hosted in the London UK region.

5. How secure is Quill? How will you keep my data secure?

Very secure. Quill takes data security of utmost importance. Our servers run on a highly secure ISO27001 compliant data centre, with sophisticated intrusion detection and prevention measures. Whether out of the office or in the office, we ensure confidentiality and the protection of your data through policy, training and technology.

6. What systems requirements do I need to use Quill’s software?

For the best experience using Quill’s legal software, we recommend Windows 10, Google Chrome and Microsoft Office 2019 (or 365) desktop apps.

We also support remote desktop environments based on Windows Server 2019, 2016 or 2012 R2.

Quill Interactive legal software

Requiring only a modern browser e.g. Chrome, Firefox, Edge or Safari, Quill Interactive Cloud is easily accessible from your PC, laptop, Mac, iPad or Android tablet. Just ensure your device is updated frequently for the latest security updates.

Desktop (Office Integration)
For the best Document Management experience, we recommend subscribing to our premium DocsHub Desktop Apps which are fully integrated with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and Windows Explorer.

We support Office 2019 (or 365 equivalents) and will continue to support older Office versions: 2016 and 2013 SP1 to the end of their respective lifecycles. Office for Mac is not supported due to its lack of “VSTO” support.

Legal Accounts
Interactive Legal Accounts is a RemoteApp and simply requires a modern Remote Desktop Client (at least v8.1) which is readily and freely available on the latest versions of Windows & Mac operating systems.

We welcome Interactive Cloud users to try our mobile apps. You will need a modern smartphone with the latest iOS or Android. Simply search for “Quill Interactive” on the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

Unsupported browsers and OS
To focus on delivering the best possible user experience and the highest level of security, we support only the most modern and secure software products. So, when a browser or OS is no longer actively developed by its vendor, we also cease support for it and, in some cases, we block the unsupported platform for your protection and to avoid confusion.

● Quill ceased support for Office 2010 when Microsoft ceased support on October 13, 2020.

1. How are we ensuring business continuity for your account?

All of our staff are comfortable and productive working from either home or our office sites and it’s been ‘business as usual’ for us since April 2020. Our account, technical support, cashiering, payroll and typing teams are readily available by email, phone or video conference to help with your enquiries and are fully equipped with the technology they need to ensure they can continue to work securely and effectively wherever they are.

Our flagship software is a cloud-based system with security and resilience at its heart. We promise 99.5% system uptime and uninterrupted support from our expert technical team to keep your business running and resolve issues as they arise quickly and efficiently. Rest assured that our ISO 27001-standard data centres and security measures are safely storing your cloud-based matter content, files and money movements. We are also proudly Cyber Essentials certified.

2. Can I get a backup of my data?

Of course, yes. We are not like other legal software vendors that keep your data as ransom.

You can request a backup of your data and documents at any time. You can download your documents in their original formats (e.g. docx, pdf) and all reports will be available as spreadsheet files (csv).

3. Can I import data from my existing system?

Yes, we routinely import data from a wide variety of existing systems. You can read all about our data migration process here. Generally speaking, if you can export your data to spreadsheet/CSV files then it can be imported into Quill easily. We also have some automated utilities for importing data from common systems.

4. Are there any data storage restrictions or hidden fees?

Nope! We want to delight our customers and make it easy for you to scale your business so we do not lock you into lengthy contracts and you don’t have to pay for additional storage with our system. In fact, we encourage you to store as much data in Quill so you treat the system as your single source of truth.

All of our pricing is upfront and much of it is on a pay-as-you-need business so you can keep a close eye on your costs.

5. Do I still need a server?

No, once you have moved over to Quill, the hassle and additional cost of running a local server is gone, but your security remains watertight. 

6. What happens if the internet is down? Or Quill goes down?

Quill is a 100% cloud-based legal software solution so you will need to be connected to the internet to access your data. However, there are multiple ways to access the internet, so even if your office connection is down, you can use your mobile phone’s hotspot or work from another location for a while.

7. What backup arrangements do you provide if the service goes down?

Quill targets an overall Service Level Objective uptime of 99.9% by employing a robust set of business continuity and backup strategies.

8. What happens if I want to leave Quill?

We’d be sad to see you go! But it’s not a problem, just let us know 3 months in advance (in line with the minimum terms of your agreement) and request a backup of your data. Additionally, once the migration has taken place to your new supplier, we will remove your data from our stores in line with our data retention policies.
