Quill McCloy Legal case study

Interview with: Annette Goody, Practice Manager & Accounts, McCloy Legal

Conveyancing and probate law firm, McCloy Legal, uses specialist practice management software to control cases and documents, and integrates with Quill for legal accounts. Having successfully completed her financial year end and quarter end VAT periods with Quill and its previous accounting system in tandem, Annette Goody now utilises Quill as her go-to legal accounts tool.

The Challenge

Annette Goody at McCloy Legal has worked as a legal cashier for 27 years and more recently took on additional leadership responsibilities. This included selecting the best legal practice management software system for her busy conveyancing and probate law firm.

Annette shares, “Having undergone multiple software swap outs with accompanying data transfers throughout my career, I chose Quill with my eyes wide open. Not only was the system itself built with a legal cashier’s needs in mind, but I was confident that Quill had the expertise to manage the data migration smoothly.”

The Solution

Quill worked in partnership with Annette to copy and input financial data from its incumbent software into the Quill legal accounts system, demanding both parties going above-and-beyond to achieve the designated go-live date.

“The Quill team went all-out to get my accounts fully up-to-date by the end-of-quarter deadline,” explains Annette. “Quill was always supportive, understanding and flexible. While extra hours were put in by Quill and I alike, the switchover went entirely to plan.

“I was keen to keep a trial balance running on the new and old applications together until an agreed cut-off point, this being the end of my first VAT quarter in January. They perfectly balanced so I’ve now moved across totally to Quill. I have absolute confidence that my practice’s financial status is showing exactly how it should and is in safe hands. From henceforth, it’s Quill all the way.”

The Future

After completing two VAT milestones in Quill, and encountering no issues at either, McCloy Legal has switched to Quill alone and not looked back.

“There’s so much to love about Quill such as its user-friendly format, excellent reporting capabilities, comprehensive post-training back up and flexible accessibility on multiple devices – the latter coming in handy when I go on holiday and can track my business via laptop. Quill’s superior to many of its counterparts. We’re delighted with the move,” concludes Annette.
