About Quill

Legal practice management software and outsourced services for the smart law firm.

Accountable to you

At Quill, our goal is to help law firms run their practice smarter and more effectively. We connect front-office and back-office functions together so you can keep all your cases, contacts, bills, emails and documents efficiently organised in one place.

With easy time recording, robust billing and reporting, simple document automation and trusted legal accounts, our legal practice management software is the surprisingly affordable solution that drives your firm’s profitability and productivity forward.

Plus, we’re the only provider in the UK offering outsourced legal cashiering, payroll and typing services, which all ultimately saves you thousands in employment, training and overhead costs.

Our software and services take the headache out of compliance and put the flexibility back into remote working so that you can focus on what matters most – spending less time managing your firm, and more time making money.

How we began and where Quill is going

Bringing law firms up to speed since 1978.

1978: First established as Gerrard Calculator Systems, we begin supplying programmable calculators from our headquarters in Manchester.

1980: Appreciating how the legal profession is required to perform lots of repetitive paperwork tasks, we begin working closely with law firms to help them overcome this with Microsoft’s innovative word processing technology.

1985: We change our name to Quill Computer Systems and started developing our flagship legal accounts and practice management software.

1998: Knowing how difficult it is for law firms to find good legal cashiers and the lengthy turnaround time for processing accounts, we set up an outsourced cashiering bureau.

2000: We launch the first version of our legal accounts and practice management software.

2004: We extend our outsourced service offerings with our outsourced payroll bureau.

2010: Our latest legal accounting and case management software wins the Institute of Legal Finance & Management Solicitors’ (ILFM) Software Users Award first in 2010 and again in 2012.

2016: We acquire Solicitors Case Management Systems Ltd and integrate its legal forms functionality Quill’s software.  Best Companies recognises us for our employee engagement initiatives and offering a caring workplace.

2018: We launch our outsourced transcription and typing service, endorsed by the Manchester Law Society, LawNet and Lawshare.

2019: We acquire Professional Technology UK Ltd.

2020: Best Companies recognises Quill as a 2-star, ‘Outstanding Company to Work For’ based on our approach to supporting employees throughout lockdown and their mental health.

Today: Quill is the only legal practice management software provider that allows you to tap into experienced legal cashiering and payroll bureaus all under one roof. Along with our outsourced typing services, our mission is to support legal practices across all their front-office and back-office needs.
