Tomorrow is all about eating cupcakes. We do have a sweet tooth at Quill but it's in the name of charity. Thursday 16th June is designated Alzheimer's Society's Cupcake Day, a fundraiser whisked up by the charity to generate money for people affected by dementia.
Every cupcake baked (or bought from local supermarkets for those short of time!) then subsequently sold in the workplace counts.
If 20 cupcakes are sold for £2 each, that's £40 for charity. The Alzheimer's Society state that £40 could pay for a person to attend its Dementia Cafes in order to share stories and swap advice with others who understand what they're going through for a 2-month period.
We're taking things a step further. As well as hosting our very own cupcake bake off and sale, we're holding a "Guess the Sprinkles" game. Whoever guesses closest to the correct number of said sprinkles on one of our cupcakes will win a prize.
We've chosen to support this charity event because the Alzheimer's Society was the beneficiary of our big annual fundraiser, Hadrian's Wall walk, held last month. This 30-mile trek has so far reached £4,250 in donations and it's not too late to get involved. To belatedly sponsor our rambling team, please visit www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Quill-Pinpoint.
